Striving to meet the needs of our patients, we realize treating some medical conditions will require a medication to be given by I.V catheter or sub-cutaneous needle. There may not be an equivalent medication that can be given by mouth or, due to the patient’s condition, they may not be able to take a medication by mouth. Smith’s Drugs Vital Care home infusion therapy allows the patient to receive the necessary medications, but in the comfort of their own home. Home infusion therapy is a medical treatment ordered by your physician that utilizes specialized, patient-friendly equipment. Our professional staff personally deliver all medications, equipment and supplies to your home and work with your doctor to monitor your therapy. This staff remains available 24-hours a day to address any concerns that may come up.
The main categories of home infusion therapy are antibiotic, hydration, pain management, total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and chemotherapy. There are many drugs that fall into these categories, and other drugs that are given for a specific illness such as multiple sclerosis, hemophilia, heart conditions and sickle cell anemia, to name a few.
Enteral Nutrition Therapy
More commonly known as “tube-feeding” this is a specialized service provided by Smith’s Drugs of Forest City. With our registered dietician and pharmacist monitoring each patient’s nutritional therapy, you can be assured that you are receiving the best care possible. All supplies, equipment and nutrient are personally delivered to the patient’s home by our trained staff, and billing for services is provided by our billing specialist.
